Ashley Hinson’s Super PAC One of the “Most Egregious Examples” of “Dark-Money Shenanigans”
Teddy Schleifer, New York Times: “Fight on Iowa, a Super PAC Backing Ashley Hinson in Iowa, Raised $4.7 Million Last Quarter. 85% of its Money Came From a Dark-Money Group Called American Advancement Inc.”
DES MOINES – Ashley Hinson’s super PAC is one of the “most egregious” examples of “dark-money shenanigans” as she relies on millions in dark money to help her flailing Senate campaign, according to reporting from The New York Times
Fight on Iowa, Hinson’s super PAC named after her alma mater the University of Southern California’s fight song, has raised 85% – $4 million – of its donations last quarter from a dark-money group called American Advancement Inc., which doesn’t disclose its donors.
Hinson’s dark money super PAC is just one of the many vehicles spending more than $100 million to help a flailing Hinson as “Josh Turek is winning over Iowa Trump voters.” Just yesterday, the RNC made its first-ever TV buy as a last-ditch effort to boost a desperate Hinson as “conditions deteriorate” for her.
“This is what is wrong with our campaign finance system: millionaires like Ashley Hinson can have their own super PACs that solicit unlimited amounts of dark money from their billionaire and corporate PAC donors,” said Josh Turek for Iowa campaign spokesperson Hannah Goss. “Ashley Hinson’s desperate attempt to buy this election will fail in 19 days because Iowans know the truth: she is a corrupt Washington politician who has gotten rich while driving up prices here in Iowa. No matter”
