ICYMI: Josh Turek Heads Into General Election as “Consensus Leader” Iowa Needs to Take On Corruption in Washington

Meanwhile, Ashley Hinson has captured attention for stock trading hypocrisy and flying first class

Des Moines, IA – After Josh Turek “dominated” Iowa’s Democratic Senate primary, he is heading into the general election as a “consensus-builder” and “one of the most bipartisan” leaders in the Iowa legislature who can “appeal to independent and moderate Republican voters.

Meanwhile, Ashley Hinson has spent the first 48 hours of the general election flying first class back to Washington to vote (for a fourth time) to continue a senseless Iran War and making headlines for her hypocrisy on banning Members of Congress from owning and trading stocks.

Missed it? See below for a quick rundown:

Josh Turek is the bipartisan leader Iowans need to tackle Washington’s rampant corruption.

  • CBS News: Turek has run on his record of working across the aisle and has touted representing the most conservative district in Iowa to send a Democrat to the state legislature. In his victory speech on Tuesday night, Turek took aim at Hinson, saying she “does not represent Iowa and does not represent our values, and tonight, Iowa, we have had enough.
  • The New York Times: Mr. Turek’s campaign casts him as one of the most bipartisan Democrats in the Iowa Legislature.
  • Roll Call: Throughout the campaign, Turek portrayed himself as a consensus-builder who can win over Republicans, noting that he hails from the more conservative western reaches of the state.
  • The Associated Press: Turek, a relative newcomer to elected office, leaned on his experience campaigning and winning in a red, Trump-won state House district as evidence that he could appeal to independent and moderate Republican voters in November.
  • The Daily Iowan: “If you’re tired of this rigged system only looking out for billionaires and leaving the rest of us behind, then join us,”Turek said in an emboldened speech following the news of his victory. “Whether you’re a republican, an independent, or a democrat, there is room here for you in our campaign.”

In contrast, Ashley Hinson has made clear that she will sell out Iowans if it means enriching herself and her billionaire wealthy donors.

  • Heartland Signal: On the campaign trail, Hinson has repeatedly leaned into this narrative, boasting that she “proactively” sold her individual stocks to send a message to Iowans that she did not run for office to get wealthy. But a closer look at Hinson’s federal financial disclosures and her recent votes in Congress, reveals a gap between her campaign rhetoric and her personal finances. While Hinson did divest from just publicly traded stocks, her family’s net worth quietly skyrocketed by up to 10 times since she was sworn into office in January 2021…[due to a] massive private portfolio [that] remained completely intact — propping up a family net worth that climbed from a maximum of $1.6 million before she took office to as much as $8 million by 2024.

  • Iowa Starting Line’s Zachary Oren Smith: Following her primary win last night, U.S. Rep. Hinson took a 1st class ticket out of Iowa for a markup in DC today.

    • Hours later, Hinson voted to continue the Iran War with her no vote on the Iran War Powers Resolution. This is the fourth such vote she has taken.
    • And yet, just a day prior: POLITICO: Rep. Ashley Hinson, the likely GOP nominee in Iowa’s critical Senate race, said last week that the Iran war will become a “political liability” if it extends much longer, according to audio obtained by POLITICO.
