ICYMI: Josh Turek Holds Ashley Hinson Accountable for the Cost of Her Corruption
Josh Turek has a track record of fighting for Iowans, while corrupt Ashley Hinson has used her position in Congress to enrich herself and her donors
Des Moines, IA – While Ashley Hinson works to hide her long record of corrupt self-enrichment, Josh is making sure Iowans know the truth. Iowans across the state have been hearing about how Ashley Hinson used her position to “[[fight] for a tax break that benefits her own fortune](https://iowastartingline.com/news/ashley-hinson-fought-for-a-tax-break-that-benefits-her-own-fortune/),” “lied about owning stock,” used campaign funds on “lavish vacations to some of the most exclusive luxury resorts in the U.S.,” and used $50,000 of taxpayers’ money to fund a luxury apartment in D.C., all while increasing her wealth by up to ten times and while her husband, who holds a “government affairs post at a leading insurance industry lobbying group,” helped his lobbying group “gain access to Hinson and other Iowa lawmakers.”
Missed it? See below for some highlights.
The Briefing with Jen Psaki: “It should not be legal to have a spouse working as a shadow lobbyist as a sitting member of Congress. It should not be legal to be able to make yourself 10 times more wealthy in just 6 years up there in DC – both of which Ashley Hinson has done. This is why we need change. I want to go up to DC to address the corruption that we’re seeing from both parties.”
Hopium Chronicles: “From Independents, from Republicans, saying ‘enough is enough, I’m tired of the naked corruption. Someone like Ashley Hinson going up to D.C. to become 10 times more wealthy, having her husband operate as a shadow lobbyist, taking $90,000 from Epstein-linked donors. It’s just over and over this level of naked corruption. And Iowans are saying ‘enough is enough.’ We don’t want more people going up to D.C. to become more wealthy, to fight for the billionaires and the large corporations. We want someone that’s going to go up there and actually understand the plights of what the average Iowan is going through. I say all the time, I don’t come from wealth. I don’t come from privilege. I understand what so many Iowans are going through because I’ve gone through it myself. And we deserve to have someone in the U.S. Senate that is up there fighting for the people.”
Pod Save America: “It’s been a level of essentially naked corruption with her. She is now up to 10 times more wealthy than when she entered Congress just six years ago. Taken $50,000 of taxpayer money to give herself a luxury DC apartment.”
The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell: “Iowans are upset and they should be. They’ve had someone like Ashley Hinson in DC that has voted to cut health care for 110,000 Iowans, to see 119,000 Iowans see their health care premiums double or triple. She’s made cuts to Social Security and, in the meantime, become ten times more wealthy just in six years up in DC, $50,000 of taxpayer dollars to give her a luxury DC apartment. Iowans are upset, and they’re ready for change.”
Endless Urgency: “Everywhere we’re going, especially in rural communities and when we’re talking to farmers, they’ll tell me ‘I voted for Trump, I voted for Ernst, I voted for Grassley, but enough’s enough. This is not the state that I recognize. This is not the state I grew up in.’ And especially when you add in this naked corruption that we’re seeing. I mean, my opponent, Ashley Hinson, 10 times more wealthy just in six years of being up there in D.C., $50,000 of taxpayer dollars to give herself a luxury D.C. apartment. Meanwhile, cutting Social Security, cutting health care, cutting food assistance just to give herself a luxury. […] That’s not what Iowans want. They don’t want a multimillionaire that is up there just to be pro-war and make healthcare cuts. They want someone who’s going to go up there and actually fight for the people.”
Des Moines Register: “She has taken hundreds of thousands of dollars of corporate money, I’m not taking a nickel of corporate PAC money. And since she has gone to DC she is now up to 10 times more wealthy just in 6 years. This is not what we should be sending people to DC for. I’m not a millionaire. I don’t own any stock. You don’t have to be worried about me selling my stock. But this is the cost of the corruption we’re seeing, and it’s working class families like yours and mine that’s bearing the cost of this corruption. We have to address it.”
Brian Tyler Cohen News: “I think that the problem with DC is we’ve got millionaires like Ashley Hinson become 10 times more wealthy in her time in DC. We’ve got 73 millionaires in the United States Senate, and we need more individuals that are gonna go up there with lived experience, that are gonna go up there and actually fight for the people.”
KCCI: “It is working class families like mine and yours that bear the brunt of this corruption. Too many individuals like Ashley Hinson that have gone to DC and in just six years become ten times more wealthy, taking $50,000 of taxpayer dollars to give herself a luxury D.C. apartment.”
