ICYMI: RNC Makes Historic Spend in IA-SEN as National Republicans Try to Bail Out Ashley Hinson

ICYMI: RNC Makes Historic Spend in IA-SEN as National Republicans Try to Bail Out Ashley Hinson

“This is the first time we’ve seen the cash-flush RNC do this for a Senate race”

Des Moines, IA— The Republican National Committee is placing its first-ever ad buy in a U.S. Senate race as National Republicans pull out all the stops to bail out a flailing Ashley Hinson, who is coming off a “weak fundraising quarter.”

  • Punchbowl: The RNC is running a $4 million coordinated spend with Rep. Ashley Hinson’s (R-Iowa) Senate campaign. This is the first time we’ve seen the cash-flush RNC do this for a Senate race. Hinson is locked in a tough contest with Democratic state Rep. Josh Turek that is becoming increasingly crucial to control of the Senate. Hinson had a weak fundraising quarter compared to Turek, raising $3.3 million to Turek’s $13.9 million.
  • POLITICO: Iowa Republicans are also facing problems down the home stretch… The RNC and Hinson campaign upped their coordinated buy to $4.1 million. A person familiar told Playbook it’s likely to top out at $5 million.

What’s more: New Washington Post reporting this morning underlined Hinson’s desperation, revealing that the day she tried to distance herself from the Iran War she voted seven times to continue is the very same day she got her (surely bad) internal poll results back.

  • Washington Post: There was considerable bewilderment when Rep. Ashley Hinson, the Republican nominee for Senate in Iowa, broke with Trump on Iran in late September, considering she voted multiple times against a resolution to restrain the president’s war powers….At the time, speculation suggested Hinson must have received a poll that raised significant red flags about support for the war. That is why it is noteworthy that in Hinson’s latest FEC report, the Republican campaign was invoiced on the same day as her break with Trump, Sept. 21, for survey research by pollster Fabrizio, Lee & Associates.

“Washington Republicans are going to historic lengths to try and buy this race for Ashley Hinson because they know what we know: Iowans are sick and tired of D.C. politicians like Ashley Hinson who sell out Iowa to make themselves and their billionaire donors richer,” said Turek for Iowa spokesperson Hannah Goss. “No amount of outside money can cover up the fact that Ashley Hinson has repeatedly voted to raise costs on Iowans all while getting as much as $8 million richer, and that’s exactly why Iowans are going to elect Josh Turek in 15 days.”
