ICYMI: While Hinson Voted to Continue the War and Fled Washington with No Solutions, Josh Turek Proposed Plan to Tackle Soaring Gas Prices
Josh’s plan to tackle rising fuel prices is proof of what he’ll bring to Washington to fight for Iowans
Des Moines, IA – After voting to continue the Iran War for the seventh time, Ashley Hinson left Washington to take yet another extended vacation instead of working to lower prices for Iowans. In the few days she’s actually worked this session, all Hinson has done is continue to raise costs on Iowans by repeatedly supporting this reckless war and the chaotic tariffs that are making everything more expensive.
As diesel climbs past $6 at peak harvest and gas continues to climb by the day, Hinson fled Washington until after Election Day without delivering relief for Iowans – probably because her Big Oil donors continue to rake in “sky high profits thanks to wartime crude prices.” While she does nothing to address the problem she has created, Josh Turek called for a three-pronged approach to immediately lower gas and diesel prices for Iowans.
Ever since, Iowans in every corner of the state have heard about Josh’s plan to lower fuel prices.

The Gazette: Josh Turek proposes fuel-price relief plan as Iran war becomes flashpoint in Iowa Senate race
- Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Josh Turek on Wednesday proposed tapping additional oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, temporarily halting diesel exports and suspending the federal gasoline tax as rising fuel costs become an increasingly prominent issue in Iowa’s U.S. Senate campaign.
- AAA reported Wednesday that regular gasoline averaged about $4.11 a gallon statewide, compared to $2.91 a year earlier. Diesel reached about $6.12 a gallon — the highest statewide average recorded by AAA and up from about $3.51 a year ago.
- Diesel prices are particularly significant in Iowa as farmers enter the fall harvest. Combines, tractors, trucks and much of the equipment used to move agricultural products rely on diesel.
- Midwest farmers use roughly three gallons of diesel for every acre of corn and soybeans harvested, meaning higher prices could add more than $1,000 to the fuel cost of harvesting a typical 160-acre field, according to reporting by Radio Iowa.
- “Ashley Hinson is failing Iowans,” Turek said in a statement, accusing Hinson of contributing to higher prices through her votes against measures seeking to end U.S. involvement in the Iran conflict.
- Turek also criticized House leaders for beginning the chamber’s pre-election recess earlier than previously scheduled. House Republican leaders canceled Thursday votes, allowing members to leave Washington Wednesday evening and remain away until after the November election.
- “Unlike Ashley Hinson, I will fight for Iowa and Iowans, and as your next U.S. senator, I will do whatever it takes to end this war, lower fuel prices, and bring much-needed relief to the working families just trying to get by,” Turek said.
KGAN: “Josh Turek released a three step plan to address high fuel costs”
- Josh Turek released a three step plan to address high fuel costs. He proposed tapping the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, pause all diesel exports and temporarily suspend the federal gas tax.
- “Ashley Hinson is failing Iowans. She should be in Washington doing whatever she can to lower the skyhigh fuel prices she caused by voting seven times to continue this war. Instead, she’s taking yet another extended vacation, leaving Iowans struggling to fill up their gas tanks and harvest their fields while her Big Oil donors continue to rake in record profits. It’s clear: Ashley Hinson does not care that Iowans are struggling,” said Josh Turek. “Unlike Ashley Hinson, I will fight for Iowa and Iowans, and as your next U.S. Senator, I will do whatever it takes to end this war, lower fuel prices, and bring much-needed relief to the working families just trying to get by.
