As gas jumps 28 cents/gal in Des Moines in just 12 hours, broken D.C. is preparing to recess early as Hinson heads home without doing anything to address rising gas and diesel costs

Des Moines, IA – Today, U.S. Senate candidate Josh Turek announced a three-prong plan to address sky-high fuel prices that are hurting Iowans as a result of the Hinson-backed Iran War. Iowa households have already paid an average of $516 more in gas alone since the war began and are experiencing higher inflation than other states. In the last twelve hours, gas prices increased by 28 cents per gallon in Des Moines.

Diesel in Iowa has hit a record high of more than $6 per gallon – up 58% since last year – just as peak harvest season hits. This increase will cost Iowa farmers thousands more to harvest their crops when they are already suffering from Hinson-backed tariffs that have raised input prices and wrecked markets.

Last week alone, gas prices jumped 24 cents per gallon in Iowa as Big Oil companies are coming off “sky high profits thanks to wartime crude prices.”

In order to provide immediate relief for Iowa families and farmers, Josh Turek is calling to:

Tap the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
Pause all diesel exports.
Temporarily suspend the federal gas tax.

Just yesterday, Ashley Hinson voted for a seventh time to continue the war in Iran, even as two of her fellow Iowa Republicans broke with their party to end the conflict. Since the war began in March, the same Big Oil companies seeing record profits have contributed more than $20,000 to Hinson’s U.S. Senate campaign.

To make matters worse: Congress is recessing early, meaning Hinson is heading home until Election Day without doing anything to address the rising fuel prices that are hammering Iowans.

“Ashley Hinson is failing Iowans. She should be in Washington doing whatever she can to lower the skyhigh fuel prices she caused by voting seven times to continue this war. Instead, she’s taking yet another extended vacation, leaving Iowans struggling to fill up their gas tanks and harvest their fields while her Big Oil donors continue to rake in record profits. It’s clear: Ashley Hinson does not care that Iowans are struggling,” said Josh Turek. “Unlike Ashley Hinson, I will fight for Iowa and Iowans, and as your next U.S. Senator, I will do whatever it takes to end this war, lower fuel prices, and bring much-needed relief to the working families just trying to get by.”

Of note: Despite privately admitting the war is a “political liability,” Hinson refused to answer repeated reporters’ questions about when the war will end and has repeatedly doubled down on her support of the Iran War, most recently telling Fox News that the conflict is “certainly not the first thing [Iowans] bring up” and claiming the war “is out of sight, out of mind for so many Americans.”
