NEW: Josh Turek Responds to Ethics Complaint Filed Against Ashley Hinson

The official complaint requests the House Office of Congressional Conduct investigate Hinson for undisclosed conflicts of interest with her husband’s insurance lobbying group

Des Moines, IA – In response to breaking news that an ethics complaint has been filed against Ashley Hinson in the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate candidate Josh Turek released the following statement: 

“Ashley Hinson is a corrupt, self-serving D.C. politician who has repeatedly shown that she is only looking out for herself, her donors, and special interests. Hinson has sold out Iowans time and time again, voting to cut healthcare, food assistance, and Social Security – all while enriching herself and her billionaire friends and donors. She voted seven times to continue this reckless war in Iran and Iowans are paying for it at the pump. This clear pattern of corruption is disqualifying, and it’s exactly why Iowans are going to reject Ashley Hinson in 39 days.”

The complaint comes after bombshell reporting from The Washington Sun/NOTUS revealed Ashley Hinson’s husband “held a government affairs post at a leading insurance industry lobbying group” and “helped arrange meetings with Hinson and other Iowa congressional delegation members.” Hinson sits on the House Ethics Committee. 

Hinson made headlines all summer for her pattern of self-enrichment, including that she “fought for a tax break that benefits her own fortune,” “spent $50,000 of taxpayers’ money on luxury apartment,” used campaign funds on “lavish vacations to some of the most exclusive luxury resorts in the U.S.,” and increased her wealth by as much as fifteen times since getting to Washington, including from up to “$1 million in earnings from a stock in her husband’s old company she claimed to have sold.”
