RECAP: Josh Turek Continues 99-County Tour Through Southeast Iowa

Josh Turek is meeting Iowans where they are

Des Moines, IA – Last weekend, U.S. Senate candidate and Paralympian Josh Turek continued his 99-county tour through Southeast Iowa. As part of his “go everywhere” strategy, Josh made stops in Decatur, Wayne, Davis, Van Buren, Louisa, Keokuk, and Mahaska Counties. During the trip, Josh met with local leaders, small business owners, and families to hear directly about the challenges facing rural Iowa communities.

Josh’s first stop of the trip included a visit to Republican State Rep. Ray “Bubba” Sorenson II’s Freedom Rock in Leon, IA, which honors Iowa’s veterans. He then rolled over to the Leon Car Show, where he chatted with participants who were showing over 150 unique cars from across the state.

Then, Josh visited the Wayne County Fair where he stopped by the FFA barn and chatted with fairgoers showing their goats, horses, and pigs.

Josh’s next stop on Saturday was in Davis County, where he heard from small business owners including Cassie Plowman, owner of Now and Then Vintage, to discuss the current economic and business climate in Bloomfield. Josh also heard from local parents about how healthcare clinic closures have made it more difficult to access health and dental care for their children.

Then, Josh went to the Van Buren County Courthouse in Keosauqua to visit the oldest continuously operating courthouse in Iowa.

As the day continued, Josh went to the Des Moines County Fair where he visited with fellow fair goers and joined them in watching the Jim Nealey Memorial Rodeo Challenge.

To close off Saturday, Josh hosted a Meet & Greet at El Mariachi in Columbus Junction, where he heard from Louisa County residents about the challenges they are facing and the ways Washington is failing them.

On Sunday, Josh stopped by the What Cheer Flea Market in Keokuk County, shopping around and visiting with local vendors.

To round out the trip, Josh met with local leaders in Mahaska County to discuss the economic headwinds in rural Iowa and the challenges Oskaloosa residents face in accessing quality healthcare. The group included Oskaloosa City Council member Javin Sword, local attorney and former Iowa House Representative Eric Palmer, retired educator LeAnn Powers, former chair of the Mahaska County Democrats Cheryl Benson, and Kurt and Jenny Keough with their son, Anderson.

Josh will continue traveling to every part of Iowa to speak directly with Iowans across the political spectrum about his plan to clean up a broken Washington that is run by corrupt, self-interested politicians and fight for everyday Iowans.

As Josh continues his “go everywhere” approach to meet Iowans where they are, Ashley Hinson has not held a single town hall since she launched her Senate campaign.
