RECAP: Josh Turek Tours Nichols Family Farm As D.C. Fails Iowa Farmers

Josh met with a local farmer in Nichols to discuss how Hinson’s votes to raise costs are hurting family farmers around the state

Des Moines, IA – On Sunday, U.S. Senate candidate Josh Turek continued his statewide “Team Iowa Tour” with a tour of a family farm in Nichols, Iowa.

As harvest season approaches, Iowa’s farmers are struggling to afford $6 per gallon diesel. While multi-millionaire Ashley Hinson says the war is “out of sight, out of mind,” Josh is talking directly to farmers getting hammered by rising costs about how just how top-of-mind the war is.

“There’s a lot of concern about what am I going to do to hang on on my farm. It’s not just what can I do to make it grow or what can I do to increase my yield. It’s like, I just want to hang on to what I got. We need to have more of a fair market to sell our crops. We need to have more realistic fuel and fertilizer prices. We have a lot of great competitors out there that are willing to work hard and work hard for their money, but if all the cards are stacked against them, it’s just dog eat dog,” said Andy Carter, farmer.

“Our farmers are hurting. They’re struggling because of bad federal policy. I keep hearing farmers tell me this is just another gut punch after another. $20 billion goes to Argentina. Our Iowa soybean farmers upside down with the commodities prices. You look at what’s happening with the tariffs, which have absolutely decimated input prices, commodity prices. This war with Iran has led to high fuel prices, diesel prices being at an all-time high, that disproportionately hurts the rural communities. It hurts the farmers,” said Josh Turek.

In the U.S. Senate, Josh will champion legislation that allows Iowa farmers to compete, including passing nationwide, year-round E15, sponsoring a federal Right to Repair bill, fighting for Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling, and cracking down on monopolies. And, he’ll pass a law that says Congress can’t adjourn without passing a damn Farm Bill. Meanwhile, Ashley Hinson continues to fail Iowa farmers. Hinson voted five times in support of chaotic tariffs and six times to continue the unnecessary war in Iran, both of which have forced farms across Iowa into bankruptcy, lowered global demand for Iowa’s crops, and raised costs for farmers across the board.
