RECAP: This Week, Josh Turek Criss-Crossed Eastern Iowa

Josh is continuing his “go everywhere” strategy to meet voters across Iowa

Des Moines, IA – This week, U.S. Senate candidate and Paralympian Josh Turek continued his “go everywhere” approach, making stops in Eastern Iowa communities and meeting with labor leaders, business owners, and advocates to hear directly about the challenges facing Iowans in every corner of the state.

Josh’s first stop this week was to the UAW 1024 Strike Line to visit with union workers on strike over inadequate wages as tariffs on steel and other materials are increasing input prices that trickle down to workers’ wages.

Then, Josh toured the Nordex Wind Turbine factory in West Branch, where company leaders told him they’ve seen a 12-15% increase in input costs this year due to the tariffs Ashley Hinson has voted four times to continue. Nordex is crucial to Iowa’s economy and employs hundreds of Iowans.

Josh ended the day at Timberline Manufacturing, a 100% employee-owned small parts manufacturer, where he heard from supply-chain leaders that they’ve seen a 7% increase in input costs since the start of the year. Leadership also expressed their frustration with the chaotic nature of the tariffs, explaining that it’s small businesses like theirs that take the brunt of the price increases.
