The Scoreboard: Iowa Republicans Back Josh, Hinson Wall Street’s Strongest Soldier
Des Moines, IA — Welcome back to The Scoreboard, a weekly recap of Iowa’s U.S. Senate Race where we keep the score of Josh’s wins, Ashley Hinson’s airballs, and the must-see moments as Team Turek plays ‘til the final buzzer on November 3rd.
This week, more than 60 current and former Iowa Republicans endorsed Josh Turek for U.S. Senate as Josh continued to hold Hinson accountable for her clear record of corruption. Meanwhile, new reporting showed once again that Hinson will always put her billionaire backers over Iowans.
🥇 Gold Medal Moment: Josh launches “Republicans for Turek” as 60+ Republicans join Team Turek.
Josh officially launched the “Republicans for Turek” coalition this week with an event in his hometown of Council Bluffs. The initial list of “Republicans for Turek” is made up of more than 60 current and former registered Republicans from across the state – including members of Josh’s own family – who are longtime Republicans and committed to mobilizing their communities to send Josh to the U.S. Senate.
A four-time Paralympian and two-time gold medalist, Josh has committed his life to putting country over party. In the State House, he represents the reddest seat won by a Democrat in 2024 and has developed a track record of reaching across the aisle to get things done for all Iowans. One of Iowa’s most effective and bipartisan members, Josh has voted with Republicans more than 700 times to cut taxes, lower costs, and keep Iowans safe. Meanwhile, Ashley Hinson is the least bipartisan member of the Iowa Congressional delegation and repeatedly voted against bipartisan legislation that would lower costs for Iowans.
▶️ Play of the Week: Josh calls out Hinson’s corruption.
Josh joined MSNOW and held Hinson accountable for her shady, self-dealing behavior.
“It should not be legal to have a spouse working as a shadow lobbyist as a sitting member of Congress. It should not be legal to be able to make yourself 10 times more wealthy in just 6 years up there in D.C. – both of which Ashley Hinson has done. This is why we need change. I want to go up to D.C. to address the corruption that we’re seeing from both parties.”
ICYMI: Last week, reporting revealed that Hinson’s husband, who holds a “government affairs post at a leading insurance industry lobbying group,” helped his lobbying group “gain access to Hinson and other Iowa lawmakers” and “blur the lines” as a shadow lobbyist. In Congress, Hinson also “fought for a tax break that benefits her own fortune” and quietly holds up to $5 million in insurance stock.
🏀 Airball(s): “Ashley Hinson Fought to Save Private Equity’s Favorite Loophole
Ashley Hinson is once again being called out for fighting “to save private equity’s favorite loophole” putting her billionaire donors over Iowans. New reporting from Mother Jones shows Hinson “has proven to be a reliable vote for corporate tax breaks and deregulation in Washington.”
Hinson fought to protect the carried interest loophole, a tax break that lets private investment managers save billions by paying a significantly lower tax on much of their income.
What’s more: Hinson and her campaign committees have taken millions from the very Wall Street Private Equity executives that benefit from this loophole, all while voting to cut health care and raise costs for working class Iowans. In other words, “The money pouring into her race from one donor—and one industry—represents a marked contrast with her self-styled image as a fighter against ‘special interests.’”
