The Scoreboard: Josh Leads in the Polls While SLF Tries to Bail Out a Flailing Hinson Facing A House Ethics Complaint

The Scoreboard: Josh Leads in the Polls While SLF Tries to Bail Out a Flailing Hinson Facing A House Ethics Complaint

As Josh met with Iowans across the state, Hinson is dealing with another corruption scandal

Des Moines, IA — Welcome back to The Scoreboard, a weekly recap of Iowa’s U.S. Senate Race where we keep the score of Josh’s wins, Ashley Hinson’s airballs, and the must-see moments as Team Turek plays ‘til the final buzzer on November 3rd.

Starting with the actual scoreboard this week: two new polls show Josh leading Hinson by four points as “Independents favor Turek by two-to-one” and “among moderate voters, Turek leads by a 34-point margin.”

New polling by Fox News and Rasmussen Reports this week show Josh leading Ashley Hinson by four points – including in a sample that voted for Trump by 14 points, even more than his 2024 margin of victory.

This comes as the GOP’s Senate Leadership Fund is anxiously injecting an additional $20 million into the race to save a floundering Ashley Hinson, bringing total GOP spending to more than $100 million. Just a week ago, leaked memos from both SLF and the National Republican Senatorial Committee made clear that National Republicans are highly concerned about Ashley Hinson’s chances of winning Iowa’s U.S. Senate race.

🥇Gold Medal Moment: Josh Turek for Iowa releases new slate of “Veterans for Turek.

In May, Josh launched the “Veterans for Turek” coalition, a group of Iowa veterans who are committed to sending Josh, a proven fighter for Iowa’s veterans, to the U.S. Senate. This week, the coalition doubled in size as additional veterans backed Josh over Ashley Hinson, who voted seven times for another forever war and twice voted against veteran health care funding.

▶️ Play(s) of the Week: Josh Turek for Iowa releases two new spots, “Getting Hammered” and “Change.”

“Getting Hammered” features Craig, an Iowa farmer, talking to Josh about the impact of record-high diesel prices as we enter peak harvest season – a direct result of Hinson’s seven votes to continue the war in Iran.

“I’m getting absolutely hammered. Fuel prices are the highest I’ve ever seen ‘em,” says Iowa farmer Craig in the ad.

“Change” spotlights how Ashley Hinson has gotten up to $8 million richer since getting to Congress. Meanwhile, because of Hinson and her seven votes for the Iran war, Iowans are struggling under skyrocketing prices on everything from gas to groceries to school supplies. The campaign has also been spotlighting Ashley Hinson’s longstanding record of corrupt self dealing in D.C. with “C’mon.”

The campaign has been blanketing the airwaves to communicate with Iowans in every corner of the state, starting with “USA,” a spot that features Josh speaking directly to Iowans about his lifelong commitment to putting country over party, followed by “Prove It,” which highlights the more than 700 times Josh voted with Iowa Republicans and “I-35,” which spotlights Josh’s commitment to working with anyone – including President Trump – to fix our broken immigration system, and “Went Through Hell” and “Underdog,” which both highlight Josh’s persistent fight in the face of adversity.

🎥 Highlight Reel: Josh meets with Iowans to talk about the issues that matter most.

Josh hosted a senior town hall in Des Moines, where he talked about his commitment to addressing Iowa’s cancer crisis and fighting to preserve Social Security and Medicare.

Josh also visited Ichi Bike in Des Moines, where he got his tires changed and chatted with the small business’s owner about the impact of tariffs and the war in Iran on his business operations.

🏀 Airball: “A watchdog wants Congress to investigate Ashley Hinson’s and her husband’s ties to an insurance lobbying group.”

An ethics complaint was filed against Ashley Hinson in the U.S. House of Representatives stemming from her husband operating as a shadow lobbyist for the insurance industry. The complaint comes after bombshell reporting from The Washington Sun/NOTUS revealed Ashley Hinson’s husband “held a government affairs post at a leading insurance industry lobbying group” and “helped arrange meetings with Hinson and other Iowa congressional delegation members.” Hinson sits on the House Ethics Committee.

Hinson made headlines all summer for her pattern of self-enrichment, including that she “fought for a tax break that benefits her own fortune,” “spent $50,000 of taxpayers’ money on luxury apartment,” used campaign funds on “lavish vacations to some of the most exclusive luxury resorts in the U.S.,” and increased her wealth by as much as fifteen times since getting to Washington, including from up to “$1 million in earnings from a stock in her husband’s old company she claimed to have sold.”
