The Scoreboard: Josh Turek Playing ‘Til The Final Buzzer While Hinson Airballs, Showing Iowans How Out of Touch She Is
TLDR: Hinson is flailing, Josh has momentum at his back
Des Moines, IA — Welcome back to The Scoreboard, a weekly recap of Iowa’s U.S. Senate Race where we keep the score of Josh’s wins, Ashley Hinson’s airballs, and the must-see moments as Team Turek plays ‘til the final buzzer on November 3rd.
This week, Josh hit two-dozen stops on his “At the Buzzer Tour,” criss-crossing the state from Council Bluffs to Davenport and everywhere in between. Meanwhile, Ashley Hinson is under fire for begging supporters for gas money as Iowans struggle to afford the gas and diesel Hinson sent sky-high with her seven votes to continue the war in Iran.
See below for the latest as we enter single digits until Election Day.
🥇Gold Medal Moment: Josh kicks off community conversation series in Sioux City
Josh headed to Sioux City, IA at the start of this week to speak to a room of nearly 100 Iowans about top issues they are facing. Josh answered questions from voters about lowering gas prices, making homeownership more attainable, and addressing Iowa’s cancer rate.
- The New York Times: I’m in Sioux City, a deep-red bastion of western Iowa, where Josh Turek, the state’s Democratic Senate nominee, took questions from a crowded room of around 90 voters at Morningside University.
- KTIV: Turek said he is looking for common ground with Republicans and even President Trump on housing, no tax on tips, and campaign finance reform.
- Sioux City Journal: “I didn’t get involved with this to have my name up in lights,” Turek said. “Too many Iowans are hurting and struggling and they deserve to have someone fighting for them.”
- WQAD: [JOSH]: “My promise and my pledge to every Iowan out there. I will be laser-focused on cost, corruption, and kitchen table issues. I’ll be out there actually fighting, not for billionaires, not for large corporations.”
▶️ Plays of the Week: With all eyes on Iowa, Josh is dominating local and national airwaves
WQAD: Democrat Josh Turek held a rally at Modern Woodman Park in Davenport today. It’s part of his “At The Buzzer Tour.” Just 12 days out until the election, Turek has been making stops all across the state.
KWQC: Iowa Senate candidate Josh Turek made a stop in the Quad Cities meeting up with voters at Modern Woodman. Turek hit on the reasons he’s running for Senate to raise the minimum wage, realign Iowa’s education system to keep up with the rest of the nation, and bring back funding for healthcare.
- JOSH: “I’m going to the U.S. Senate to fight for a livable wage because $7.25 is not a liveable wage for families. Second, I’m going to go up there and fight to drive private equity out of housing, and healthcare, and nursing homes. I’m going to fight for affordable, accessible healthcare because I’m someone that believes healthcare is a human right. And you shouldn’t have to win the genetic lottery to have access to basic healthcare.”
WHBF: Democrat Josh Turek visited downtown Davenport…This comes after a visit to Freighthouse farmers market on Saturday. Turek plans to continue his campaign tour until election day on November 3.
The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell: JOSH: “Everywhere I go I hear from Iowans telling me they’re worried about keeping food on the table, a roof above their head, paying their electric bill, and being able to keep gas in the tank because of this war in Iran. As your senator, I’ll be laser-focused on fighting for a livable wage, affordable housing, affordable health care, drinkable water, functioning public schools, and addressing Washington corruption.”
The Athletic: JOSH: “When I was representing my country on the field of play, there’s this real Olympic and Paralympic ideal of … you’re representing your entire country,” he said. “ … When I got involved in politics, I tried not to view it through the prism of, these are Republicans, these are Democrats. I always tried to view it as, I’m representing my community, I’m representing my state.”
NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas: A former paralympian born with spina bifida, he needed 21 surgeries before he was 12. We asked him about Hinson’s charge that he’s too liberal for Iowa.
- JOSH: “I think that the term moderate has become a pejorative almost in modern-day politics. I’m proudly a moderate. I’m a common-sense prairie populist.”
🎥 Highlight Reel: Josh Turek for Iowa releases series of ads across the state
“Richer,” features Rich, a registered Iowa Republican and Ashley Hinson constituent, speaking about why he will be crossing the aisle to support Josh this year.
“I’m on Social Security, and I still have to work two days a week,” says Rich in the ad. “Maybe Ashley Hinson doesn’t have to worry about gas prices, but I sure as hell want a Senator who does.”
Ashley Hinson is a millionaire who has repeatedly voted to raise prices on Iowans to enrich herself and her donors, even “[champion[ing]](https://iowastartingline.com/news/ashley-hinson-fought-for-a-tax-break-that-benefits-her-own-fortune/)” a tax break that “benefits her own fortune.” Hinson has increased her net worth by up to 15x since she was elected to Congress, getting as much as $8 million richer and raking in up to $1 million in earnings from private insurance stock she told Iowans she sold.

The Josh Turek for Iowa campaign also launched a front-page ad in the Sioux City Journal the same day President Trump arrived in Sioux City, IA. The ad highlights Josh’s bipartisan credentials, noting he has voted with Republicans more than 700 times to lower costs, cut taxes, and keep Iowans safe, making him one of Iowa’s most effective and bipartisan lawmakers. Josh has flexed his bipartisan credentials to earn the support of Republicans, farmers, law enforcement, small business owners, and more. Josh has repeatedly said he will work with President Trump to drive private equity out of housing, secure the border, and get rid of taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security.
🏀 Airball: “Ashley Hinson Asks for Gas Money in Iowa Senate Race Against Josh Turek”
In a shockingly tone deaf move, Ashley Hinson asked supporters to help fuel the massive bus she is driving around Iowa. Hinson continues to show Iowans she is an out-of-touch multimillionaire who does not care how much they’re suffering.
The kicker: Diesel has repeatedly hit record highs in Iowa as a direct result of the war Ashley Hinson voted for seven times.
